WOMEN’S UNDER 18 CHAMPIONSHIP
Ottawa, Ontario
July 23-29, 2023
2023 WOMEN’S NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
TBD
The Under 18 Female National Championship is a 9-a-side tackle football Championship that will be played on an annual basis. The event will include provincial teams from across the country fielding the top female U18 tackle football in the country. Football Canada hosted its first Women’s National Tackle event in 2012 and has been participating in the World Championship since its initial year in 2010. Since the start of these two events the country has seen a significant increase in female participation within tackle football.
The 2020 event was scheduled to be the inaugural event but due to Covid – 19 had to be cancelled. We are currently working with the PSOs and provincial Health Authorities to host a 2021 event.
The event hosts provincial tackle football teams from across Canada and builds off the 2012 Women’s Challenge Cup held in Montreal. The Challenge Cup hosted provincial teams from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Quebec and Atlantic Canada in a week-long celebration of women’s football which included integrated practices, mini-games as well as development opportunities for mentor coaches.
While provinces battle for the title of national champion, the women’s nationals serve as the start of the identification process for Canada’s Women’s National Team who compete at the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Women’s World Championship (WWC).
The 2022 Women’s National Championship has been postponed until 2023 due to the WWC taking place in 2022.
