Costs vary per Club as each may have additional fees such as a volunteer bond or equipment deposit. The costs generally range from $300 to $500+ depending on the model in place for the Club. Kindly reach out to your club for a breakdown of fees if additional information is needed.
IS FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE?
Participants in all Football Manitoba Member programs and leagues are eligible for financial assistance through KidSport and Jumpstart. Your club will be able to provide details on the application process through one of these organizations.

HOW YOUNG CAN CHILDREN START TACKLE FOOTBALL?

i.e., U10, U12, U14 & U16
WHEN IS THE TACKLE FOOTBALL SEASON?
Practices for the season will start at the end of July/early August. The actual season start date varies from year to year, however games usually start mid-August and run through to the end of October.
WHAT FOOTBALL CLUB SHOULD I REGISTER WITH?
Each of the football clubs participating in the MMFA has a catchment area which determines where players must register. Some exceptions are provided based on the school you attend if located in a different catchment from where you reside. Other considerations may be made to allow friends from different areas to play together on the same team, subject to MMFA approval.
HOW OFTEN DO TEAMS PLAY AND PRACTICE?
Most teams will practice 2-3 times per week, with one game per week, usually on the weekend. Some games may be played during the week if required to aid in scheduling or to make up games cancelled due to severe weather etc.
WHERE ARE PRACTICES AND GAMES?
All practices will take place at your home club, or nearby at a field regularly used by your home club. Games can take place at any of the participating clubs in Winnipeg, as well as the four clubs located outside of the city.
DO I NEED TO PROVIDE ANY EQUIPMENT?
Virtually all equipment is provided to you. The one exception would be football cleats, which are similar to, but slightly different than soccer cleats. You may need to provide your own mouthguard as well, but do not need to be expensive custom types. Most players will use mouth guards available from sporting equipment stores for just a few dollars. Check with your home club to see whether they provide mouth guards.
CAN GIRLS PLAY TACKLE FOOTBALL TOO?
Minor tackle football is open to everyone! We believe that all Participants deserve respectful and inclusive environments for participation that value the Participant’s gender identity and gender expression. The Association wishes to ensure that all Participants have access to programming in which they feel comfortable and safe.
MY CHILD IS VERY SMALL. CAN THEY PLAY WITH A YOUNGER AGE GROUP?
The MMFA recognizes that player safety is the priority in all that we do. We also recognize that developmentally appropriate play is a key component in player development. As such we follow the Football Manitoba policy which is designed to guide decisions regarding player movement between age categories, in appropriate situations for contact football.
