RESPECT IN SPORT

The Respect in Sport Program assists coaches, referees, trainers and managers with identifying and dealing with abuse, neglect, harassment and bullying in sport. The online course curriculum is divided into six modules, which only take 2.5 hours, and can be completed at the user’s own pace.  Free for Manitoba Coaches.


MAKING HEAD WAY IN FOOTBALL

Free one-hour course on understanding concussions, safety and ways to reduce the risk of injury.  You must log into the Locker with your NCCP number to access the course.


UNDERSTANDING THE RULE OF TWO – New

This is a free 20 minute course.  The goal of the Rule of Two is to ensure all interactions and communications are open, observable and justifiable. It is one of three pillars of the Responsible Coaching Movement, along with background screening and ethics training

After completing the Understanding the Rule of Two eLearning module, participants will:  

        • Have a solid understanding of the Rule of Two 

        • Improve their ability to assess and implement preventive measures 

        • Be aware of questions to ask to determine their sport organization’s policies 

Applying the Rule of Two in sport environments provides many benefits, including: 

        • Increasing the safety and security of all participants 

        • Reducing the risk of an incident of abuse 

        • Protecting everyone, including coaches and volunteers 

        • Reducing a sport organization’s liability

        • Providing additional help if there’s an accident or emergency

SAFE CONTACT

Safe Contact is designed for all coaches who coach tackle football.  Techniques and drills to teach safe contact are highlighted, in addition to learning how to analyze and correct athletic performance.  Upon completing this module coaches will be able to:  (not required for Flag coaches at this time)

            • Address Fear of Contact
            • Teach Safe Tackling
            • Teach Safe Blocking
            • Teach Safe Contact for Ball Carriers
            • Analyze Performance
            • Safe Contact course generally consist of a one day (8 hour) workshop.  It is mandatory for coaching all ages of athletes who participate in tackle football.

              The goal of this module is to provide coaches with the tools required to create a safer environment for their athletes, while improving overall skill level

INTRODUCTION TO COMPETITION – POSITION COACH

Coaches will be taught basic and intermediate skills required to become a trained position coach in offensive, defensive or special teams position skills by an expert coach. The expert coach will also provide drill progressions, and will demonstrate how to incorporate these tools into practice plans.
Upon completing this module, coaches will be able to do the following:

– Plan a Practice
– Analyze Performance
– Provide support to athletes in training
– Make Ethical Decisions (MED)

After completion of the 12-hour classroom portion of the Intro to Competition course, coaches will need to attend a 2-hour Position specific workshop presented by an elite level coach for the selected position.

All Head Coaches require this course even if entering their first year of coaching.
All other coaches must complete this prior to their second season.

COMPREHENSIVE BACKGROUND CHECK

This should include a Criminal Record check, Child Abuse Registry and/or Vulnerable Sector check completed within the past three years– Coaches that have this requirement already through their employment or through another organization may complete an annual declaration form to confirm their background check is clear and less than 3 years old.

Contact your home program for instructions on obtaining your background check.  For those with a current background check, please download the Annual Declaration, complete and provide to your home program.  (Flag coaches must submit this form to Football Manitoba by emailing technical@footballmanitoba.com).
